Scientific Theme 5 (Data and Models) of GDR Robotics is organizing a workshop on “Foundation Models and Robotics” on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at LIRIS – Centrale Lyon (Écully).
Foundation models (LLMs, multimodality: text, image, sound, action…) open promising perspectives in robotics for developing versatile, multi-task and multi-robot models. This workshop aims to bring together the scientific community to discuss advances, challenges, and perspectives related to their adaptation and use in robotics.

Dear new PhD students of LIRIS (Year D1),
The Welcome session for the new PhD students at LIRIS will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on the Doua campus. This reception will take place in the Bassi amphi (https://www.insa-lyon.fr/fr/map/campus). The coffee break will also be held in the lobby of the Bassi amphi. It will be followed by MT180 in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. (with the D2, same place).
All students at the beginning of their second year (D2) who missed the welcome session in October 2024 are also expected to attend.
This message also concerns permanent staff supervising PhD starting this autumn. I kindly ask you to make sure the information is passed on to your PhD students.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already shaping our lives: in our phones, our web searches, hiring decisions, and even healthcare. But did you know these machines can also… discriminate? Why can an AI reproduce sexist, racist, or class-based stereotypes? What happens when an algorithm, supposedly neutral, makes unfair decisions? And above all: what can we, as citizens, do to fix it?
Free admission — in-person only

Motivation and social interaction are two core concepts in psychology that are seldom considered together in HCI. I will describe interdisciplinary research that aims to design tailored human-computer interactions that either motivate users to interact with others, or support interactions that aim to motivate users (e.g., motivational technologies for sports and physical activity). I will explain the individual differences we have observed and how these individual differences may help researchers to better understand users and to provide them with tailored, motivational, and social interactions.

The goal of video retrieval is to develop robust representations that allow efficient search of relevant items within large video datasets. Traditional methods often fail to capture fine-grained temporal nuances, which motivates two new tasks: Alignable Video Retrieval (AVR), designed to identify temporally alignable videos, and Composed Video Retrieval (CoVR), which retrieves a target video based on a query and a modification text. To evaluate these approaches, two new datasets have been introduced: Dense-WebVid-CoVR and TF-CoVR, focusing on fine-grained and compositional actions. The talk will also present ViLL-E, a joint training framework that extends VideoLLMs to both generative tasks and embedding-based retrieval. This approach unifies video generation and retrieval while maintaining high performance.
