Summary:

This PhD focuses on understanding and supporting skill development within teams and collectives through capturing, packaging, and sharing procedures. In digital environments, informal learning can be challenging due to distance, and an overall lack of visibility of activities. Yet digital environments also make it easier to record and share procedures. The objectives of this PhD include, delineating digital skills, assisting users in identifying relevant skills worth sharing, investigating how to package procedures, and designing interfaces to assist learners in understanding and learning procedures. Application areas range from domain-specific software to graphics editing tools and online platforms like Wikipedia and OpenStreetMap, aiming to support learning in various contexts and communities of practice, especially in environments with turnover, specialized tools, and unfamiliar norms.
