Summary:
Road simulation is a useful resource for traffic studies and road security. But this tool is limited by technology capacities of display devices. For a valid study in road simulator, it is necessary that the perception of road objects would be the same in the simulator and on the road. Nowadays, road simulators are restricted in night scene or light sources rendering. There is hence a need of reliable data.
With last progress in image synthesis, we are expecting to incorporate a tone mapping operator in road simulators, adapted to the driver’s visual performances. Three points are important for the tone mapping operator design: experimental protocols for evaluation of tone mapping operators, real-time and psychophysical tests of tasks detection.
