In 1890, the first issue of the Revue scientifique des femmes was published. When women's admission to higher education was still recent, and their participation in scientific work was the subject of heated debate, the appearance of such a journal in the media landscape did not go unnoticed. In this presentation, we will sketch the profile of the female contributors to the journal and detail the scientific content to see what image of science is produced by and for women. We will return to the controversies in the press of the time caused by the publication of this journal. Based on a little-known archive, we will shed light on the circumstances of its rapid demise the following year, in 1891. This presentation will allow us to reflect on the conditions that promote or prevent greater participation by women in science.
