I am working on designing algorithms to better capture high dimensional signals on an image plane. It requires:

A good sampling pattern in both lower and higher dimensions and,
A robust mathematical model which can project a high dimensional signal (effects) (from global illumination, soft shadows, etc) on lower dimensions (image plane) with higher fidelity.
