Subject Knowledge acquisition and exploitation for epiphytic assistance generation
Abstract The SEPIA system allows non-computer-scientists to create assistance scenarios for different types of pre-existing applications. This system adopts a generic and epiphytic approach to implement assistance on the graphical user interface of the applications without needing their source code to be available. The SEPIA system enables the assistance designer, experts of the target-application, to create assistance scenarios via a graphical user interface. Although the system does not require any prior computer-science knowledge, the task of designing assistance systems is complex and time-consuming.
Currently, the SEPIA system exploits several sources of knowledge for a given target application: a structural and static description of the interface, traces of end-users’ interactions, as well as domain knowledge provided by an expert.
The purpose of this thesis is to enrich these knowledge sources in order to facilitate and accelerate the design of assistance systems and make these systems more intelligent while maintaining the epiphytic and generic approach.
For this purpose, we are considering several axes: the enrichment of the existing description of the target-application to integrate a semantic dimension and take into account the dynamic character of the interfaces; the modelling of the data used by the target-application and their links with the interface; the modelling and capitalization of the expertise and experience of the users of the target-application (experts and/or end users).
