Summary:

My research work, as part of my thesis, is part of the Integrated EU project SERENITY (http://www.serenity-project.org/). Our idea is to design a framework to meet, among others, these needs. Based on a notion of security patterns, this framework will comprise a language for specifying context, requirements and provided security properties of patterns, as well as a flexible mechanism for integration of local and distributed security mechanisms. It should include methods for verifying the consistency (e.g., free-contradiction) of pattern combination both inside one service and inside a composition of services. It should also include a mechanism for describing changes in patterns. The former methods should be designed in order to deal with such changes in an efficient way. The framework should be applicable for a wide range of systems and applications. We plan to demonstrate how this design can implement and integrate Security & Dependability patterns, mainly by applying it to scenarios stemming from the smart items real case study.
