Experience modelling and reuse

We are defining the notion of Trace Based Systems (TBS) as a kind of knowledge-based systems focusing on experiential knowledge. More precisely, the main sources of knowledge in a TBS are traces of the interaction between a user and a system, models allowing to describe those traces, and transformations across models (trace interpretation).

I'm currently investigating the applications of these notions to the field of the Social Semantic Web.

Annotation and knowledge sharing

We are working on the link between formal knowledge models (mostly based on Semantic Web technologies such as RDF, OWL, SPARQL) and document annotations, especially multi-media documents. We are also studying how knowledge is distributed across formal and informal representations.

Semantic interoperability of data sources in a dynamic environment

The problem of interoperability between data sources has been addressed since the beginning of databases. However, the growth of the wordl wide web and the rising of mobile computing make it even more challenging. On the one hand, expressive languages such as OWL are needed to provide interoperability at the semantic level. On the other hand, the number of datasources as well as the dynamicity of the environment suggests the use of decentralized models, such as the P2P model.
