Industrial Partnerships

The LIRIS Industrial Partnerships Service aims to constitute a robust network of partners, to capitalize on good practices for successful partnerships and to communicate efficiently on them.

Head : Alain MILLE

Assistant : Sylvie OUDOT

Building robust and high quality partnerships with any type of companies is a big challenge for the LIRIS. We aim to develop the virtuous spiral of synergies between theoretical works and innovative applications at a high scientific and technical level. The industrial partnership service is the LIRIS tool to reach this strategic goal with industrial partners:

  • building  a robust network of partners from existing researchers contacts,
  • capitalizing experiences of project building, project achieving, project valuation with industrial transference,
  • communicating on these industrial partnerships in order to enhance the LIRIS reputation towards companies.

LIRIS industrial partnerships assessment 2005 – 2008

The following diagram gives details of this assessment (number and type of the LIRIS partnerships).

A closer analysis of the situation allows to point up several outstanding points:

  • a significant success in ANR (National Research Agency) projects (40% successful)
  • a growing contribution to FUI (French Ministries Founding) type projects
  • a strong heading place in regional research clusters with several projects which are directly directed by LIRIS from 2005 up to 2012.

Bilateral industrial projects are numerous (19% of the global budget) and concerns big companies as Orange Labs, EDF, SAP, Xerox, Thales, Ilog, EADS, Dassault Systèmes, ATOS,…

The following table gives the budget distribution according to main classes of fundings. Private sector part reaches 19% of the budget. Public sector part reaches 81% which spreads up in 70%  through « call for proposals », and only 11% through recurrent budget.

%  2008
Recurrent funds (Ministry and CNRS) 10,96
ANR 38,09
BQR (University Specific Bonus) 0,12
Europe 9,71
ACI, RRIT (Research Network Funds) 4,94
FUI (Unified Ministries Funds) 11,99
Public Institutions 0,99
Bilateral projects (A company and LIRIS)
19,02
Région 4,17
TOTAL 100,00

An other outstanding point is certainly the growing rate of start-up creations: ten incubation projects since 2005 which have lead to seven companies creations.
