Welcome to the LIRIS Website
It is important to begin these few lines by introducing ourselves. We’re all members of the LIRIS research center with different functions: Professors, Assistant Professors, Researchers, administrative and technical staff, Ph.D. students, post-doctoral students, contract employees and trainees.
Our main scientific discipline is called Information Science and Technology (IST).
IST is much younger than traditional ones such as mathematics or physics. This is a dynamic and raising discipline. It is also rewarding, because it concerns fundamental scientific issues and allows to positively impact society, people, or organizations, developing software and hardware as efficient solutions to real problems.
IST is concerned about information (data) processing. These information come from several sensors (cameras, scanners, networks sensors) or data digitized from different kinds of documents. Quantity and complexity of the data keep growing and these data are often distributed, multi support, multi format and generated in continuous flow.
In LIRIS Lab, researchers have competences on acquisition, processing and modeling of the data (such as images), conception of services and distributed information systems, as well as information indexing and retrieval.
