Ernest 8.3

You can train your Ernest by inserting food (balls) onto the board. Most of the times, you will need less than 10 balls to obtain a well trained Ernest.

Remember that Ernest 8 has no representation of space. He can only learn sequences of behavior. He can do four things: move forward 1 unit, turn 45° (to the right or to the left), and eat. His visual system can see nothing else than food and has a resolution of only two pixels (materialized by his two cube eyes). Learn more about Ernest 8.3 from Ernest's blog.

If the training goes wrong, Ernest may stabilize in a suboptimal behavior. Sometimes, he catches a too strong habit of turning in one direction rather than using the two directions (most often counterclockwise, due to initial conditions). Other times, he may get stuck in an endless loop turning around a ball or a group of balls without finding how to reach one of them.
