Abstract: We present a new deformable partition model, with a natural application to image segmentation. Our approach is purely digital: the partition geometry is the set of intervoxel elements that are between regions and is thus a set of digital surfaces. We define the new notion of I-Simple points to ensure that the partition topology remains unchanged during deformations. This definition is based on simple intervoxel properties and is easy to implement. The deformation is carried out with a greedy energy minimization algorithm. A discrete area estimator is used to approach at best standard regularizers classically used in continuous energy minimizing methods. The effectiveness of our approach is shown on several 3D image segmentations.

Keywords: Simple point; Deformable model; Multi-label image.
